Learning objectives this week...
Unit of Inquiry Theme: Where we are in Time and Space (an inquiry into the relationships and the interconnectedness of civilizations)
- We will continue learning about the structure of opinion writing.
- We will continue our literary learning with a book study on the book Tiger Rising. We will study how we can make connections between written, visual, and oral versions of a text to improve our comprehension of the text. Please remember that students should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes daily. Assessment Thursday.
- In math we will continue to learn how to find the area of rectilinear figures and unknown variables using the area formula. Additionally, we will use this week to review skills previously taught. We are still focusing a lot on multiplication, so it is important that students are fluent with facts. Please have them practice at home. We are going strong with our incentive program, Multiplication Sundae. With each group of facts that they memorize, they will earn a part of an ice cream sundae. On December 20th, we will have a sundae social and they will be able to redeem what they have earned.
- We will continue learning about westward expansion, the Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812, in our IB unit and the technology (simple & compound machines) that settlers used as they moved west during this time.
Please remember that Thursday and Friday of this week are early release days. If your child has a change of dismissal, it must be submitted in writing. Thank you!
