Learning objectives for the week:
Unit of Inquiry Theme: Sharing the Planet: An inquiry into communities and the relationships within and between them.

  • We will continue to learn about various contributors to our society. We will be choosing an individual whose actions had a significant impact on the American Revolution and we will learn how to research information about them and write to reflect on their contributions. In our research we will take note of how authors organize text and how we, as readers, can determine the structure that they used to organize the text. There will be an assessment on Friday on text structures. If you would like your child to practice at home, they may bring home their inquiry notebook. They can also read a variety of texts and determine the structure the author used to organize the text.
  • We will learn how to use adjectives in our writing as well as how to create complete sentences that include subjects and predicates. We will have a classwork task on this on Tuesday 9/4.
  • In math we will continue our learning of how to use a number line to set a benchmark for when we round numbers. Assessment will be Friday. Here is a resource video for rounding that might be helpful.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQryP-AIwO8&feature=youtu.be
  • We will have an assessment on the events leading to the American Revolution on Wednesday. Students will have the option to take home their Social Studies Weekly to use during their nightly reading time to review.
  • Is your student interested in showing off their amazing talent on stage? Auditions for the 3rd-5th Grade Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, September 5th after school. Please complete and return the permission slip to school by Wednesday, August 29th at 2:45 pm. Permission slips went home last week.

  • Wednesday August 29th is our first early release day. Please plan accordingly and send in a change of transportation in writing if needed. ASP will have regular operating hours.

  • Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?  Teasley's Physical Education department is proud to partner with the NFL and their PLAY60 program to bring you BACK TO FOOTBALL Friday on September 7th.  Back to Football Friday is a school-wide event that encourages students to get active and excited about the upcoming football season.  Students are encouraged to wear their favorite NFL football gear.  During their specials time the students will participate in football related stations testing their throwing, catching, kicking, punting, and speed/agility.

This is going to be a very busy and fun week!

Field Trip: Our field trip is Friday. Students may bring a sack lunch from home, but everything they bring must be in a container/bag that can be thrown away. They will be very active during our time at Safety Village and will not be able to carry empty lunchboxes around with them. Sack lunches from school are also a choice if you prefer. Please have them wear comfortable sneakers, standard attire bottoms and a spirit T-shirt or standard attire shirt.

On Tuesday I will be in an all day planning meeting, therefore we will have a substitute. Please remind the students about the importance of presenting their best selves when I am not there. Your children are amazing and I know that they will welcome our substitute and show them how amazing they are!

  • We will continue to learn how to use proper nouns, common nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs in our writing. We will have an assessment on this on Thursday.
  • In math we will be learning how to use a number line to set a benchmark for when we round numbers. Here is a resource video for rounding that might be helpful.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQryP-AIwO8&feature=youtu.be
  • Students will receive their main idea assessment from last week and the retake test will be on Wed of this week, unless otherwise noted on the assessment.
My goal is to have all ParentVue codes to you by the end of this week. If you have not turned in your ParentVue  form please do so as soon as possible or if you need another form, please let me now. I will be requesting the codes from our ParentVue coordinator on Monday. One grading change to note...as a 4th grade team we have decided to have all assignments (assessments, projects, classwork etc) be worth the same weight when the final grade is averaged. After much discussion and consideration, we determined that it would be most beneficial for students.

Happy Friday everyone! It was another great week in room 303! Your children continue to impress me more and more everyday!

As we wrap up the week, please ask your child about the following:
  • What did they learn during our fire safety presentation today?
  • What did they think of our Appreciation, Apology, A-ha circle?
Students were asked by our fire safety instructor to discuss with you the status of your family's smoke detectors and escape plan in case of fire. Our field trip is next Friday.

Our flexible seating is off to a great start! The students really seem to like it!

Just a few reminders:

  • Next Friday (8/24) is our field trip to Safety Village
  • We did not get the chance to dive as deep into the Revolutionary War as I wanted to this week, so we will postpone our "Tea Party" until after we have a chance to learn more. Sometimes teachable moments present themselves and when those happen we may not get the chance to cover everything we want that day, so we just extend our plans. 😊
  • Tomorrow is the deadline if your child is interested in retaking their math assessment from last Friday. It must be signed by you and it must be returned tomorrow. This retake will not be offered after tomorrow.
  • Picture day is Monday. Students must wear standard attire.

This is going to be a super exciting week! We are beginning flexible seating in our classroom. I have decided to go ahead and jump in with both feet! Instead of starting small, the classroom has been reorganized and there is room for everyone to try a new seating arrangement. I have spoken at great length with the class about how in order for flexible seating to work, it takes responsible learners. I am excited for us to give it a try!

Our learning objectives this week:

  • Math: place value and number forms continued/comparing numbers-quiz Friday
  • Unit of Inquiry (incorporating Reading, Writing, Social Studies): We will continue to learn how to research and pull out main ideas and supporting details to use as we summarize text. We will begin learning about the events and individuals that led the United States to change and to the Revolutionary War. I am hoping that our learning this week takes us through the Boston Tea Party and that we can have an actual "tea party" in class on Friday. There will be a quiz on Friday on main idea and writing a summary.
Friday we will have a visit from a member of the Cobb County Fire Department. They will be teaching the students about fire safety and will be helping to prepare them for our field trip to Safety Village that is coming up on 8/24.

We have a jam-packed week of learning ahead of us!

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

We have had a great week so far! The students are getting more comfortable and friendships are being made. 😊 A few friendly reminders...

  • Please be sure that your child is in standard attire daily. The Teasley website, as well as beginning of the year information that I sent home, outlines what standard attire looks like.
  • Friday the students will have a math assessment on place value, standard form, expanded form and word form. We have been working on this and they have several resources in their math journals that can be used to prepare them. Below are a few sites that students can use to review the material.

I am looking forward to the first full week of our learning journey!
A few things to note:

  • Please turn in your child's field trip permission slip AND waiver as soon as possible.
  • If you ordered supplies through Teasley, they are still working on getting those delivered. I have a few extra supplies so please do not worry if your child does not have theirs yet, we will make it work.
  • Please remember to send in a NUT FREE snack with your child. This includes all nuts & foods containing nuts (peanuts, tree nuts, hazelnuts, peanut butter)
Learning objectives for the week:

Unit of Inquiry Theme: Sharing the Planet: An inquiry into communities and the relationships within and between them.

  • We will be learning about various contributors to our society. We will be choosing one and we will learn how to research information about them and write to reflect on their contributions. In our research we will take note of how authors organize text and how we, as readers, can determine the author's main idea through headings and subheadings. We will then be able to incorporate the use of headings and subheadings in our own writing about contributors in our society.
  • In math we will be learning about place value and various ways that we can write numbers. We will have a quiz on Friday.
Please remember that any changes in transportation must come in writing. I can not accept emails or Remind texts about transportation changes.  Please remind them in the morning of how they are going home for the day.

Starting this week if your child is not in uniform, this includes socks, they will receive a notice stapled in their agenda. Thank you for your help with this and your understanding.

Wednesday, August 1, 2018
