Learning objectives this week...
Unit of Inquiry Theme: How We Organize Ourselves: The structure and function of systems and organizations and their impact on the economy, the environment and human-kind.

  • We will begin learning about the structure of opinion writing.
  • We will be learning this week how to interpret information presented visually and orally (ie: graphs, charts, pictures etc) (Assessment Friday) Please remember that students should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes daily.
  • We will also be learning how to use the correct homophones in our writing (class task on Thursday)
  • In math be learning about using various visual tools to help us multiply (arrays, area model, distributive property & partial product). The 2nd quarter focuses a lot on multiplication, so it is important that students are fluent with facts. Please have them practice at home. We have begun a new incentive program. It is called Multiplication Sundae. With each group of facts that they memorize, they will earn a part of an ice cream sundae. By our holiday break in December, we will have a sundae social and they will be able to redeem what they have earned.
  • We will also be learning more about life after the American Revolution and how the founders had to reflect in order to make compromise. They will have an assessment next week and I will soon provide them with a study guide that they will use in class but will also be able to bring home to use during their daily 20 minute reading time.
